La Jolla in December

Back in San Diego. Back at my old job. No time for anything except sleep, work, and eat. That's why no bloggy bloggy for so longy longy. Sad face. I've missed you, dear readers. Though I'm not baaaack or anything like that, I am on stay-cation for another week and a half, so I have a few spare moments to update this here Swiss Cheese Blog.

Today we spent a glorious day in La Jolla, which is an eye-catching gem of a community in San Diego. It was in the mid 60s today (around 18 C, for my readers everywhere else in the world) -- pleasantly cool, cardigan weather. Our first stop was the Birch Aquarium, the public outreach program of UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, for a belated Father's Day outing. We got Dad one of those "Smart Box" gift cards for Father's Day this year, and he finally redeemed it!

For lunch, we drove down near La Jolla Shores to The Cheese Shop for sandwiches. I highly recommend this joint. In addition to serving great hot and cold sandwiches, they stock specialty sodas, beers and candy.

The Reuben - corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island on rye

After lunch, we drove up to the cove to see the seals scoot around. They're so fun to watch! I could watch them all day. Seals and tourists alike were busy basking in the California sunshine.

And finally, we stopped at Mt. Soledad to take in a 360-degree view of San Diego. The day was clear enough to see the downtown skyline, Coronado Bay Bridge and even up toward the snow-capped mountains of San Bernardino County. What I couldn't get enough of was the shoreline. It's good to be back.

  3. Hi An American in Switzerland - Thanks! It's good to be blogging again and wonderful to be back in my "hometown." As for you, congrats on your move to CH and best wishes as you make it your new home! Where will you be living? Will you keep a blog? I still follow all my blog friends living there to keep up with their adventures. I miss it!

Hello Carla - So happy to see you here! I really do miss blogging, so I will try to post more updates when I can. It won't be with any sort of regularity because of the whole job thing (oh to be a housewife again...), but I'll do my best.

Happy New Year to you and Yves!

  4. Hi Amanda! I will be living in Chexbres near Vevey (near Lausanne) in the French speaking region of CH. I leave in two days! I am sure the winter is going to be rough for my warm San Diego blood :)

I started a blog but I am not very good at keeping up with it. Maybe once I get there I will get better.
